The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots
organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive
ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives
for social justice by improving the quality of life for women,
children and families and by safeguarding individual rights
and freedoms.
Dear Ladies:
The students and staff at Barrett Elementary School wish to thank you
for your generous donation of backpacks and school supplies. We have
received many positive comments and phone calls from parents regarding
yesterday's event. The media coverage was an excellent portrayal of how
cooperation and teamwork should be presented. The students were very
excited and surprised upon receiving their "Batchpacks." Thank you again
for partnering with the Best of the Batch Foundation to provide this
opportunity for our students.

To Whom It May Concern:
I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the excellent care that my
children have received at the Jane B. Lobl Children's Waiting Room
during my jury service. As a stay-at-home mom, I was a bit reluctant to
place my children in the care of someone that I didn't know. My
reservations were quickly calmed when I met the friendly staff and saw
the wonderful facilities. By the end of the second day, my 3-year-old
was having so much fun that I had to coax him to leave. I can't thank
you enough for providing this service.

Luanna Hollingshead was beaten by her adoptive parents, became a mother
twice by the age of 21, and was abused for many years by the man with
whom she lived, using drugs with him and resorting to prostitution to
support them both. She was in jail for a while and finally got clean.
After becoming homeless, she went to Bethlehem Haven, graduated from its
Step-Up program, and then found her way to NCJW and Thriftique through
our partnership with Bethlehem Haven's Project Employ program. Luanna
has been a sales associate with Thriftique for more than a year and
brings a smile to everyone's face with her infectious enthusiasm.

Here is what your donation can do to make a difference:
Silent Witness Initiative for Domestic Violence Education
$225 purchases a life-sized Silent Witness Silhouette, representing a real woman who died at the hands of a loved one, loaned at no cost to hospitals, schools, and government offices working to spread awareness about domestic violence.
Pic-A-Bag
$65 provides 20 duffel bags filled with necessities to children removed suddenly from their homes for foster care, or who are homeless.
Suit Yourself
$60 enables a woman re-entering the workforce to buy attractive and appropriate clothing to wear to a job interview or work.
Children's Playrooms in the Courts
$70 buys a pager, given to each parent/guardian so that they can be reached in case of emergency.
$200 purchases food for the children in all three Playrooms, for one month.
$200 also purchases replacement toys and equipment, needed approximately once per month.
Book Drive
$50 buys 8-10 assorted new books for infants, toddlers, and children attending the Playrooms to take home and call their own.
Services to the Elderly
$100 helps underwrite our annual information forum, free to the public, on critical issues facing senior citizens today.
Advocacy
$450 sponsors an emerging NCJW leader to attend a National conference and then train Section members to advocate on public policy affecting the lives of women, children, and families.
