A new program is coming to NCJW Pittsburgh Section in the summer of 2015. The Back 2 School Store (B2SS) will enable economically disadvantaged children to “shop” for brand new clothing, sneakers, and school supplies in a one-day-only “store” set up just for them. With the assistance of NCJW volunteer personal shoppers, each child will be escorted through the department store-like space to select pants, shirts, sneakers, undergarments, a winter jacket, and a backpack in their favorite colors and styles. Each child also receives school supplies. All of the merchandise is brand new, purchased, or donated by NCJW and its sponsoring partners. While the children “shop” inside the “store,” parents browse the Family Resource Center, where they can pick up health and social service information from other local organizations.
Teddi Horvitz, Myrna Kline, Lynne Siegel, and Katie Whitlatch are the chairs of this amazing new program. If you’d like to get involved in this initiative, contact Samantha Dye at firstname.lastname@example.org or 412-421-6118.
