NCJW Pittsburgh Section is pleased that a unique regional initiative, STANDING FIRM: The Business Case to End Partner Violence, is now an affiliate of Pittsburgh Section. STANDING FIRM (SF) educates employers about the financial, safety, and human costs of partner violence on the workplace and workforce and arms them with tools for taking action in their organizations. NCJW brings awareness and education about partner violence to its members and the general community via the Silent Witness Initiative. The NCJW/SF partnership will have a role in improving the well-being and safety of hundreds of thousands of employees in our region.
By educating employers about the importance of addressing partner violence as a workforce and workplace issue, SF and NCJW meld social advocacy with effective business practices.
Three NCJW members staff SF – Dr. Patricia Cluss, Director; Susan Nitzberg, Associate Director, Outreach and NCJW Past President; and Barbara Penner, Associate Director, Member Services.
Over 200 employers representing 247,245 employees have joined SF. Members range from large employers such as UPMC to one-person companies; for-profit and non-profit organizations; and those with both a white collar and blue collar focus. Membership in SF is free and signifies that partner violence is on the employer’s radar screen.
