Voting Rights & Our Democracy
Thursday, June 6, 2019 • 7:00 – 9:00pm
at the Jewish Community Center • 5738 Forbes Avenue
Doors open at 6:30pm for a wine & dessert reception.
Voter registration and ID laws, ballot access, census participation, modern voting machines… do you know about the issues that will impact the 2020 election? Do you know how can you get involved now to help protect our democracy?
This panel discussion at our 2019 annual meeting will raise awareness of the systemic, intentional efforts to deprive people – especially people of color, women, individuals with disabilities, and LGBTQ individuals – of the right to vote and curtail political power, while identifying opportunities for attendees to join the fight to remove barriers to the ballot before Election Day.
Our Voting Rights & Our Democracy panelists include:
Feyisola Alabi, Special Initiatives and Welcoming Pittsburgh Manager in the Office of Mayor William Peduto
Izzy Bronstein, National Grassroots Organizer at Common Cause
Erin Casey, Executive Director of Pennsylvania Voice
Jennifer Clarke, Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Center
The panel will be moderated by Tessa Provins, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh.
Our Annual Meeting is open to the public!
After the panel discussion, please stay with us to install 2019-2020 NCJW Pittsburgh leadership, honor extraordinary members of the NCJW community, and learn more about how to get involved with NCJW Pittsburgh this year.
