Anti-ICE Funding Alert
For years, NCJW-Pittsburgh has worked to uphold democratic ideals, including voting rights and access, support for young voters, and free and fair elections. Underpinning our democratic process are our Constitutional rights - our rights to free speech, to assemble, religious freedom, due process, and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. Right now, those rights and freedoms are being blatantly trammeled.
Over the past year, we have seen an escalation of families ripped apart, inhumane treatment of people seeking refuge in the U.S., and immigrants denied due process. We know the vast majority of the people being detained at schools, hospitals, courthouses, places of worship, job sites, and off the streets as they go about their daily lives are not the “criminals” that the Trump Administration has claimed they are targeting - they are mothers, fathers, grandparents, and children. They are our neighbors.
Call your PA Senators and tell them to vote against funding for ICE
Senator John Fetterman*: (202) 224-4254
Senator David McCormick: 202-224-6324
The occupation of Minneapolis by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has shown us that no one is safe, that federal agents are being granted impunity to violently attack and even kill peaceful observers and detainees - whether on the street, as with Renee Nicole Good, Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, Marimar Martinez, and Alex Pretti, or behind locked doors, as with Geraldo Lunas Campos.
These are our taxpayer dollars at work - billions of dollars for an out of control agency advancing a campaign of fear, intimidation, and violence - while critical funding for food benefits and healthcare are cut.
Right now, Congress has the power to close the spigot - to cut off the supply of dollars flowing to this unaccountable agency. Please take a moment to call your U.S. Senators and tell them to vote NO on any spending bill that includes funding for ICE.
