Tikkun Yachad
While tikkun olam, or repairing the world, is a well-known Jewish value, this same idea - that we are called to leave the world a little better than we found it - can be found throughout cultures and religions, around the world. “Tikkun Yachad” translates to “Repairing Together” in English, and is a concept that emphasizes the communal act of repair - repairing ourselves, supporting each other, and engaging in the work of repairing the world collectively.
Recognizing the need for collective care as the foundation on which to build collective power and action, we started the Tikkun Yachad series a little over a year ago. The idea of these gatherings was, and remains, to not be yet another thing to do, but rather a place to be - to connect, fill our cups, and prepare ourselves for the work of repair, however that may show up for us. We have been honored to be joined by partners connected to our reproductive freedom and access and democracy work who have shared their stories, and the repair work they are engaged in. We’ve explored our values and motivations, what sustains us, and how we help sustain others. We’ve grounded our bodies, breathed, and stretched, made plans, and written postcards.
We know and understand that the work can be long, and hard, and that the arc of justice bends too slowly. We also know that to sustain this work, we need to take care of ourselves and each other, celebrate the small wins, and seek joy in the work and in each other. And above all, continue to breathe.
Tikkun Yachad is an invitation, whether you are just getting involved, are a social justice veteran, or are simply looking for a space to find community rooted in common values. Our next gathering will be on Tuesday March 10. Come as you are. All are welcome.
