Alert: Contact your Allegheny County Council Member: No Coordination with ICE

Right now, Allegheny County Council is considering an ordinance that would ensure that county departments, staff, and other entities do not coordinate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as codify the ongoing practice that all Allegheny County residents are able to access County services, regardless of immigration status.

National Council of Jewish Women Pittsburgh stands with all immigrant communities, our neighbors, friends and partners. We are outraged by the unlawful and violent actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, across the country, and right here in the Pittsburgh area. These are not isolated incidents. They reflect a dangerous pattern of federal immigration enforcement operating with excessive force, lack of accountability, and disregard for human life. In this moment, with our friends, colleagues, neighbors, and communities under increasing threat from this rogue agency, we need to use any the tools at our disposal to deepen protections for all the residents of our county.

Currently, Councilmembers Jordan Botta, Dan Grzybek, Bethany Hallam (at-large), Paul Klein, Kathleen Madonna-Emmerling, and Alex Rose (at-large) are signed on as bill co-sponsors. However, more support is needed in order for the ordinance to pass.

Please take a moment to contact your council representative(s) to either thank them for their support, or ask them to sign on to proposed ordinance 13809-26. You can find your councilmember

Here is sample language you can use to call or email:

Hi, my name is ___________ and I am a constituent at __address___. I am calling/writing to [ask you to co-sponsor, and vote in favor of, proposed ordinance 13809-26] OR [to thank you for your support of proposed ordinance 13809-26.] This ordinance would strengthen Allegheny County’s commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of all county residents.

I believe caring for our neighbors is a moral imperative, and as an Allegheny County resident I want to ensure that we are doing everything in our power to protect our neighbors from the chaos, disruption, and pain that ICE is creating throughout the country, and right here in Allegheny County. [Please support this important legislation] OR [Thank you again for supporting this important legislation.]
