Allegheny Youth Vote Block Party

Imagine a block of Downtown Pittsburgh transformed into a street party for area high school seniors to celebrate their entrance into a lifetime of civic participation. A DJ plays, local leaders give their well wishes and perspectives, students enjoy interactive activities and a resource fair, as bus load after bus load of students cast their very first ballots. Sound exciting? Want to be part of or support the action? Read on for more!

NCJW-Pittsburgh is proud to be a founding member of the Allegheny Youth Vote Coalition, a nonpartisan group formed in 2023 dedicated to engaging students in civic activities, supporting informed voting, fostering dialogue between youth and officials, and helping students recognize the power of their voice and their vote.

Together with our partners at PA Youth Vote, The Civics Center, League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, B-PEP, Women and Girls Foundation, VoteRiders, and more, we have worked to develop and deliver programs that build civic participation, engaging, informing, registering, and supporting our region’s youngest new voters.

Currently, the Allegheny Youth Vote Coalition is working with teams of student leaders across Allegheny County high schools to register their peers to vote. And we are very excited to host the first Allegheny Youth Vote Block Party on April 30 to celebrate high school students casting their first vote during the Pennsylvania May primary.

All registered students in Allegheny County are invited to enjoy music, speakers, resource booths, food, and activities, culminating in early voting for the midterm primary.

We expect over 500 students to attend. It’s a big event, and we will need lots of help to make this a success!

Here are a few ways you can help:

  1. Volunteer with us and be part of an event dedicated to empowering young people to get informed, get involved, and make an impact, whether for a couple hours or the whole day.. To sign up, go to this form

  2. Sponsor the event! We will be providing buses for the students from their home schools, food, and engaging activities. Do you own a business? Are you a leader with an area nonprofit? Know someone who might want to sponsor? If so, please contact Jessica at jsams@ncjwpgh.org for more details about how your business or organization can support!

  3. Support the event with an individual donation! The Allegheny Youth Vote Coalition is comprised of nonprofits and fueled by the generosity of our donors. Every dollar contributed supports our efforts to equip youth with the tools they need to engage meaningfully in the democratic process! Donate here.
